We are excited about our new research space and the endless possibilities for studying and designing new technology for the changeful nature of life and society!
Creating a research lab space is about many things of which people are the foundation. The creativity of these resident researchers comes to life in research areas such as Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction and Visualization through the situatedness and the fun interactions that take place with and through machines.
Thanks to a recent grant from the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the support of many colleagues and the CS department at UVic, the VIXI lab is one step closer to putting together our new research space!
Our envisioned research studio is a student workspace combined with a reconfigurable ‘smart’ home and office space. This includes a mock-up living area, kitchen and an open-concept mini-office. Our lab will house many exciting big machines such as a CNC laser cutter and engraver, programmable knitting machine, 3D printers, EEG, fNIRS, large displays, and motion tracker. These will be complemented by smaller devices such as activity trackers, phones, microcontrollers and several IoT sensors.
We are excited about this space and the endless possibilities for studying and designing new technology for the changeful nature of life and society!
