I am from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where I did a B.Mus. in voice and a B.Sc. in mathematics and computer science at the University of Saskatchewan. I also completed a M.Sc. at the University of British Columbia in computer science, with a focus on embodied remote communication and connection via social swarm robots. As a PhD student at UVic working with Regan Mandryk, my current interest is in studying and designing technology for social connection online, particularly among remote friends.

I also enjoy reading, creative writing, art, and music of all kinds (including listening to it and performing it myself).
