Turning Garments and Accessories to User Interfaces


Looking for: MSc Student, Undergraduate Student

Want to create a new generation of clothing and accessories-based wearables? This project is for you!

Wearables such as garments and accessories (e.g., purses, bags, jewellery) have the potential to provide in-situ access to information and can serve a wide range of application areas such as healthcare, manufacturing, education, transportation and fashion. This project will focus on (a) critically questioning and identifying compelling use cases for elevated pieces of garment and accessories-based wearables for everyday life and (b) understanding if and how people might create or modify existing wearables to turn them into meaningful user interfaces.


Requirements/Skills

  1. Loves activities such as sewing, crochet, knitting, or woodworking

  2. Good programming skills

  3. Has some experience with programming hardware (such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi or others)

  4. Experience with rapid prototyping

  5. Experience with or awareness of human-centered design processes
